The Sewing Technology Training System under the Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) is designed to prepare highly skilled instructors for vocational and technical education institutes. The program is developed and implemented by the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India. The training system ensures that trainees acquire the knowledge, technical competencies, and instructional skills required to effectively train future professionals in the garment and apparel sector.

One of the most common career paths is working as an Instructor in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), vocational training centers, or technical institutes. Instructors trained through this program play a vital role in preparing skilled workers for the garment industry.

Trainees may also work as supervisors in garment manufacturing industries. In this role, they oversee garment production activities, manage sewing operations, and ensure quality standards are maintained during manufacturing processes.

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is an integral part of the Sewing Technology training system. The evaluation process is designed to measure the trainee’s technical knowledge, instructional abilities, and professional attitude throughout the training program.

Assessment is conducted in two stages: internal continuous assessment and final assessment. Continuous assessment evaluates trainee performance during the training period, while the final assessment is conducted through the All India Trade Test (AITT) for Craft Instructor.

The final examination is conducted by the Directorate General of Training. Trainees who successfully pass the examination are awarded the National Craft Instructor Certificate (NCIC), which is a recognized qualification for vocational instructors across India.
