Fixing of Buttons, Hooks etc.

Fixing of buttons, hooks and other fasteners is an important process in garment making. These are used to open and close garments properly and provide comfort and fitting to the wearer. Proper fixing ensures durability and neat appearance of the garment.

1. Fixing of Buttons

Buttons are attached to garments by hand sewing or machine stitching. The position of the button should match correctly with the buttonhole.

  • Select the correct size and type of button
  • Mark the position accurately
  • Use strong thread for stitching
  • Sew through button holes evenly
  • Make a knot securely at the end

2. Fixing of Hooks and Eyes

Hooks and eyes are used in garments like blouses, skirts, and trousers. They provide a strong and invisible fastening.

  • Mark the correct position on both sides
  • Sew the hook firmly using small stitches
  • Attach the eye properly to match the hook
  • Ensure proper alignment for easy closing

3. Fixing of Press Buttons (Snap Fasteners)

Press buttons are used where quick fastening is required. They are commonly used in children’s wear and shirts.

  • Mark the position on fabric
  • Attach both parts (male and female) correctly
  • Use proper tools or stitching method
  • Check proper locking after fixing

4. Fixing of Velcro

Velcro is used for easy opening and closing. It is commonly used in uniforms, bags, and footwear.

  • Cut Velcro to required size
  • Place hook and loop parts correctly
  • Stitch along the edges securely
  • Ensure proper alignment for firm grip

Precautions

  • Use matching thread color
  • Ensure strong and tight stitching
  • Maintain proper alignment
  • Avoid loose fixing
  • Check fastening after completion

Conclusion

Proper fixing of buttons, hooks and other fasteners is essential for the functionality and appearance of garments. Careful stitching and correct positioning improve durability and user comfort.
