Making of Buttonhole

A buttonhole is an opening made in a garment to allow a button to pass through for fastening. Proper making of buttonholes is important for strength, durability, and neat appearance.

Steps for Making a Buttonhole (Hand Method)

  • Mark the position and length of the buttonhole according to button size
  • Cut the slit carefully using scissors or blade

  • Make close and even stitches around the slit
  • Reinforce both ends to prevent tearing
  • Finish with a secure knot
